Candidate responses 2010 elections: Wagner, Hoeffel, Onorato, Sestak

Senate race:

Specter’s campaign said they would be sending a response, so we consider that a request for endorsement.  Responses will be posted if we get them today. Update: a response came in on March 2 (4 days after the deadline, after the final reminder, and after the other responses were available online).  They also lack a statement saying that the Senator stands behind the answers. With those caveats, click here to see the SpecterResponses.

To vote: if you have been to two DFP meetups and/or DFP sponsored events since Feb. 2009, and if you do not intend to vote in person at Tazza d’Oro on March 3, please do the following.

1. print out DFP Endorsement Ballot 2010.

2. vote.

3. place the ballot in a BLANK, white envelope.

4. place the blank envelope in a second envelope.  Address that envelope c/o Joy Sabl, 7008 Willard St, Pittsburgh PA 15208-2841.  Also sign your name across the flap of the outside envelope. If you’d like to tape, glue, put a fingerprint over, or otherwise tamper-proof the outside envelope, feel free.

5. send it ASAP.  If you are housebound or if it’s getting late to mail it, call for pickup: 412…208…4913.

On Wed. March 3, Meetup attendees will examine the outer envelopes.  One person will open the outer envelopes in a bag, and hand off the inner envelopes.  Another person will open the inner envelopes and hand off the ballots for tallying.  Results will be reported as “endorsed” (at least 70% support) or “no endorsement.”  Some members have expressed fears of “hard feelings” or “retribution.” Therefore, unanimous votes, if any, will not be announced as such.

The Goals We Share (tailgate / potluck)

July 21, 2008

The Goals We Share (tailgate / potluck)
Sat. July 26, rain or shine, 11-3:30

Please come to “The Goals We Share,” a family-friendly, alcohol-free potluck/tailgate at West Penn Ballfield at the edge of Polish Hill.

This was an unusual spring where the super-heated rhetoric of primary politics hit Pittsburgh hard. Lets eat together, relax together, and talk to each other, in a low-key way, to re-find our common ground. Bring a dish (optional), family, friends, “fun stuff” (soft frisbees, musical instruments) and goodwill.

Various groups are invited, but the focus is on us…as people.

RSVP online at http://crush3r.com/page/mygmfcbpri or for more info & another RSVP link (requires sign-up), go to http://tinyurl.com/DFP-Goals-potluck Want to RSVP for several people at once? Leave a message at (412)731-7020 (voice mail).

Pittsburgh, PA -

Democracy for Pittsburgh March Against the War on 3/24

Democracy for Pittsburgh is an official endorser of this event so let’s make DFP and DFA a big part of Pittsburgh’s biggest anti-war rally ever!

Here are the details for Democracy for Pittsburgh’s particpation in the March Against the War:

MEETING SITE GOOGLE MAP LINK

MEETING SITE DIRECTIONS
There is an large old brick building on the north side of Centre Avenue between N. Dithridge St. and Dollar St. (2nd block east of Schenley H.S.) It is the only building on the block. The building is marked (carved in stone actually): “1896 Herron Hill Pumping Station DPW” We will meet on the sidewalk in front of the building.

(There is a Subway sandwich shop and a bar located a block or two further east on Centre for anyone hungry or thirsty.)

PARKING
There is a metered lot a block away at Centre Ave and N. Craig St
There is also parking on Centre Ave. and in the surrounding neighborhood.
Other suggestions for parking:
Soldiers and Sailors Memorial – underground parking / entrance on Bigelow / $ 5.00 for the entire day.
CMU Parking Lot – entrance on Moorewood Ave. / FREE
(Since the rally ends up at the Pitt campus, it might be easier for some to park down at S&S or CMU and walk up to the rally. That way they’re closer to their cars when the day concludes.)

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Buses 54C, 71A, and 81B all go right by Schenley High School (54C and 71A also go to Oakland)

“THE PLAN”
We’ll meet at 1:00pm to get “Pumped Up” in front of the “1896 Herron Hill Pumping Station DPW” on Centre Ave between Dollar St and N. Dithridge St.

At 1:20 we’ll make the short march up to the rally site (at Schenley H.S.) so that we arrive right at the start of the Schenley rally.

If you arrive after we depart from the Pumping Station, just head up to Schenley H.S. and look for our Democracy for Pittsburgh BANNER. If you look, you will find us. The second rally (at the University of Pittsburgh on Bigelow Ave between 5th Ave and Forbes Ave) will begin about 3:00 so if you are very, very late, meet up with us there.

Just bring your LOUD voices to march behind the NEW Democracy for Pittsburgh banner.

(NOTE: Do not be confused by the 12:30 feeder march advertised on the AWC posters and fliers. This is a separate event taking place at the VA hospital and then joining up with the main rally at Schenley H.S.)
